The 2017 ‘Enchanted Blooms’ creations were inspired by different species which are endangered in their natural habitat. The green Jade evening gown, for example, was inspired by the exotic Strongylodon macrobotrys which is also known as Jade Vine.
The Jade Vine is a tropical plant native to the Phillipines. The species is almost extinct in the wild due to the destruction of rainforests in the Phillippines which are disappearing at an alarming rate – a 1988 survey estimated that only 20 per cent of the forest remained.
“When I researched about conservation I was struck by the incredibly lively colours and lovely shapes of endangered flowers which inspired me greatly and ultimately led me to design this collection. The Jade Vine is incredibly exotic and vibrant. –Sanyukta Shrestha
